FAQ

Who can participate?

  • Musicians of ALL levels in the Sunshine Squad on Facebook are welcome to participate!
  • The music you record does NOT have to be performance-ready. Just share your playing with us! We want to celebrate the fact you are making music and this is a judgment-free zone for ALL musicians!

What should I wear?

As this is a Halloween event, make sure you’re wearing at least one of the following:

  • Halloween costume or costume makeup
  • A Halloween color or Halloween-themed shirt, pants, leggings, etc.
  • Halloween accessories (earrings, necklace, elf ears, vampire fangs, cat ears, wigs, hats, etc.)
  • Feel free to get into the Halloween spirit by being creative and outrageous!

What NOT to wear – Wearing any of the following will lead to immediate disqualification.

  • No political costumes. Let’s just give ourselves a break this year, eh?
  • No blackface, duh.
  • No appropriation. Celebrating a cultural heritage is ok, a costume that is used as a slur against a heritage is not. Be smart and kind.
  • No graphic nudity, simulated or real. Keep your costumes PG-13.
  • Instead, be creative! As much as we admire technical ability when assembling a costume – we also value creativeness! A neat costume made from stuff found around the house is totally cool!

What should I play?

  • Repertoire, solos, etudes/exercises, orchestral excerpts, scales, etc. (excerpts of longer works are fine!) Basically, anything that brings you joy!
  • Again, the music you record does NOT have to be performance-ready. Just share your playing with us! We want to celebrate the fact you are making music and this is a judgment-free zone for musicians of ALL levels!

Anything else I should know?

  • Your music AND your outfit are the stars of the show! Please make sure the Halloween part of your outfit is visible in the video.
  • Video length: Minimum of 5 seconds, no maximum. File size should be less than 50 MB.
  • Chamber ensemble videos with up to 5 members are welcome, but only the musician who submits the group entry will be eligible to win the prizes. Other ensemble members are welcome to submit different videos. (Note: Group videos need ALL members’ consent before entering)
